About TipChecks
What is TipChecks?+
TipChecks is a neutral verification platform that shows whether a business has voluntarily submitted documentation supporting its stated tipping policy. We do not publish reviews, ratings, or accusations.
Why does TipChecks exist?+
Customers and workers increasingly ask where tips go. TipChecks helps businesses answer that question clearly and professionally by offering a public verification status.
Is TipChecks a regulator or enforcement body?+
No. TipChecks is not a government agency, legal authority, or labour regulator. We do not determine whether a tipping practice is legal or fair.
For Businesses
Why is my business listed on TipChecks?+
TipChecks displays publicly available business information so customers and workers can see whether a tip policy has been verified. Listing a business does not imply endorsement, criticism, or wrongdoing.
What does “Verified” mean?+
“Verified” means the business voluntarily submitted documentation supporting its stated tip policy, and that documentation was reviewed according to TipChecks’ published criteria. Verification is not a legal opinion or guarantee of compliance.
What does “Unknown” mean?+
“Unknown” means TipChecks has not received verification documentation from the business. It is not a judgment, accusation, or statement about your practices.
Is verification required?+
No. Verification is optional. Businesses that choose not to verify are shown as “Unknown.”
What kind of proof do you require?+
We ask for simple documentation you likely already have, such as: a written tip policy; POS tip distribution settings; or a signed statement from ownership. We do not request payroll records, bank statements, or employee identities.
Who can see my documents?+
Verification documents are reviewed privately by TipChecks and are never published publicly. Only your verification status appears on your business profile.
How long does verification take?+
Most verification reviews are completed within a few business days.
Can I update my tip policy later?+
Yes. You may resubmit updated documentation at any time if your policy changes.
Can TipChecks remove or change my listing?+
If information is inaccurate or misleading, you may request a correction using the “Request correction” link on your profile. TipChecks reviews correction requests in good faith.
For Customers & Workers
Does a verified business treat workers better?+
Verification only confirms that documentation supporting a stated tip policy was submitted and reviewed. It does not evaluate fairness, working conditions, or employee satisfaction.
Should I avoid businesses marked “Unknown”?+
“Unknown” simply means no verification has been submitted. Customers and workers may decide how much importance to place on verification.
Are businesses accused or reported on TipChecks?+
No. TipChecks does not publish accusations, allegations, or unverified claims.
Transparency & Fairness
Does TipChecks accept payment to hide information?+
No. TipChecks does not accept payment to remove listings, hide information, or influence verification outcomes.
Is TipChecks anti-business?+
No. TipChecks exists to support transparency and trust between businesses, workers, and customers.
How do I contact TipChecks?+
You can contact us through the Contact page for general questions or correction requests.
